This is the second painting in a set of three I did for my painting class on my spirit animal based upon mythology from all over the world, but primarily Native American mythology. The preliminary drawing for this is labeled "Hiding Turtle." This was to show how I am similar to my spirit animal. Both of us hide in the sight of a threat or fight. This is a weakness, because it means that I have the tendency to avoid confrontation with important problems. I feel it is important that one should understand and explore the weaknesses he or she may have through the spirit animal. Spirit animals are not our heroes, they are our teachers and guides. They empower us through knowledge that we can analyze from our dreams. The red skin represents the way we blush during embarassment. The dark background represents the way we feel when we do something shameful and we want to hide in a hole or a place where no one can see us. This is acrylics on 22x28 canvas.
