Some months ago I read a fantastic book about the portrayal of the devil throughout art and history. There were a lot of fascinating paintings and drawings, with an equally fascinating story. It is certainly something for anyone interested in not only art and history but religious matters. Due to this inspiration, I painted two portraits of Lucifer, the devil or satan, whatever you may call him. In the first painting, I wanted to portray pain, bile and anguish, but also bitterness. The second painting, which is the one you see here, was to be smoother, prettier and more inviting. There are serpent-like dragons coiled around him, one around his neck, the other next to it and the third around his hand. He is conjuring a fire.
