It is true that many people see the Morrigan only as a dark force. A goddess of battle and war, however there are other aspects to her nature. As well as her revelling in slaughter we see a goddess of strength, swiftly adapting to circumstance. She can be a battle crow in one moment, a loving nurturing mother in the next. It is written that Danu (the Irish Mother Goddess Of The Earth) and the Morrigan are connected by mythology. The Morrigan who after sleeping with Danu’s son, Dagda, (the most prominent of Gods) , was impregnated at Samhain and produced the universal egg (the shaman’s egg) whilst she was in the form of a crow. The universal egg lies in the crows nest with other ordinary crow eggs and is protected by the Goddess herself. The egg contains all the knowledge and wisdom of the ages, it can be used for astro travel, protection from dark forces and most of all is a master healer with the strength to face insurmountable odds.
