Since modern day armor can take quite a lot of small arms fire before being penetrated by bullets, close combat has become of renewed importance. The berserker is based on a new tactical concept of the Confederation. The trooper is encased in a powered heavy armor with monofiber blades attached to his hands. The armor also sports a couple of gravtubes on the back, hurling the trooper up to a hundred yards forward if activated. The job of these troops is to break lengthy firefights by charging the enemy heads on, and engage them in close combat. The concept has proven a success if deployed in the right situation, and is an extremely unsettling experience for ORA troops. The white skull painted on the helmet is due to a habit of berserker troopers to decorate their armor with various death symbols. Confederate Command discourages this practice and has ordered officers of all ranks to keep such behavior in check.
