Hygieia, the (demi)goddess of long-term health, the daughter of Asclepius. Her chalice, entwined by her giant pet snake, is the symbol of apothecary and general medicine. Asclepius's symbol, a winged staff with a pair of snakes, can be seen at the background wheel (and yes, the staff was originally associated with Apollo and, even longer before that, Hermes). Many have asked how I did this picture. Well the paper I used was a Canson black pad (yes, black), coloured with Faber-Castell Art & Graphic coloured pencils.
