Medium used: Pencil, then went over it with black fine liner I drew this on a long booring bus journy into oxford on the way to college. It should have been a 30min trip, but took the best part of 1 and a half hours. I decided to draw a fat lazy dragon, inspired by the lack of them :). Also due to the fact that on an MMORPG called horzins, your RP'ing character can become fat, I decided to draw a concept for a fat dragon. People on the Horizons forum exclaimed to me how much it looked like Smaug from the hobit. 'Whats the Hobit' I asked (clueless to most fantasy back then (I am a scifi freak)). I then read the hobbit, and now hiked through a fair chunk of Lord of the Rings. It looks nearly the same as the Dragon Smaug is described (note I had no insiration from the book, just a massive coincidence) on page 197 of the book. Just to think, I had never even heard of Smaug before I drew this, or read the Hobbit for that matter. Here is a quote from The Hobit to show what I mean: There he lay, a vast red-golden dragon, fast asleep; a thrumming came from his jaws and nostrils, and whisps of smoke, but his fires were low in his slumber. Beneath him, under all his limbs and his huge coiled tail, and about him on all sides streaching away on unseen floors, lay countless piles of preciouse things............................. Smaug lay, with wings folded like an imeasurable bat, turned partly on one side, so that the hobbit could see his underparts and his long pale belly.................... Also Smaug was described keeping half an eye open when he slept on page 204. The link to that Oh So cool game called Horizons is -check out their concept art, it RULES!!
