Fire and Ice

Chronicler Deakon Gammot speaks- --Though they were raised apart, the Artrus twins share certain traits. Aside from the obvious similarities between them in face and form… both have their mother’s beauty, their father’s stubborn streak… and a penchant for getting themselves into trouble. They share a genius that, however equal in both, is definitely diminished and/or amplified by their choices of direction. Whereas Gwen is, and always was a curious soul, asking questions, writing, drawing, and observing… Iona’s bent runs more toward her personal ambition, money, power, and recognition --I was once privy to an interesting sight. A fortune teller visited WinterHome somewhere in the twins’ sixteenth year. The old woman gave each girl a crystal orb and said that these would reveal the inner spirit of each if they but looked into the clear depths. Iona was, of course, skeptical… but Gwen, as always, was game. Standing back to back so neither could see the other’s orb… each sister glanced into the crystal. --I must confess my amazement… for I had not expected this trick to work. One blazed red, the other turned blue… to each girl respectively… fire… and ice. Gwen and her sister Iona... Prismacolor pencil. 2001.
