Ondine is the first in a series of pantings I'm calling Mytherinas, stylized portraits of historical/mythical/fairtytailical females I find fascinating or are dear to my heart. Ondine was a German water nymph who gave up her immortality to become human and marry a knight who pledged faithfulness to her with every waking breath. As she began to age, her husband lost interest and broke that vow. Ondine found him asleep in his lovers' arms. She put a curse upon him so that he would have his breath when he was awake, but should he ever fall asleep, he would stop breathing and die. 8"x10", acrylic on canvas. Print available for purchase.
