the Death of Mercutio

Sci fi/Fantasy image by

James Ramsey

i drew this one for the Woodworks E-zine contest to design a fantasy image based upon a scene from Shakespeare... one of the most poignant scenes from 'Romeo and Juliet' for me was the Death of Romeo's friend, Mercutio. when Romeo (the lion) tries to make peace and steps between Mercutio (the fox) and Juliet's cousin, Tybalt, Mercutio is stabbed... ROMEO: Courage, man; the hurt cannot be much. MERCUTIO: No, 'tis not so deep as a well, nor so wide as a church-door; but 'tis enough, 'twill serve: ask for me to-morrow, and you shall find me a grave man. (pencil, photoshop colored 3-18-03)
