This picture was inspired by the story (told in a succession of comics) behind one of my favorite musical groups at current, Coheed and Cambria. Their lead singer came up with the entire story and plot, and so their music (now 2 awesome albums) subtly reflects the tale. (The first comic of the series was just released, but I don’t have a copy yet.) It’s a very complex, intricate science-fiction story, but I’ll simplify it so you can understand this picture. Basically, Coheed and Cambria are husband and wife, respectively. Coheed is bitten by a dragonfly and infected with a fatal virus that changes him into the evil Monstar. Consequently, Monstar has the innate power to decide the fate of all life…that is, he can either save or destroy it. From hints in their songs, it has been determined that, no matter what, Earth holds the key to destruction or salvation. So, this picture is my interpretation of Coheed’s struggle. He’s transforming into Monstar here, but I left him some human qualities, like his face and body shape and single tear (representing his human emotion). Always the optimist, I’m pulling for him to save all existence, so I let him retain some human characteristics. I really like how this picture came together. I especially like his expression, the way Earth came out (gah, do you see the little yin-yang?), and the yellow swirl behind our little blue planet. I’m also happy with the BG. Lyrics: All belong to Coheed and Cambria, taken from their songs ‘Everything Evil,’ ‘33,’ ‘Junesong Provision,’ ‘In Keeping Secrets of The Silent Earth,’ and ‘Blood Red Summer.’ By the way, the three graves have significance to the story. I would suggest checking it out, along with their music. I promise you’ll enjoy it. Very cool stuff. Medium: done completely in PSP (yay, more practice!) Time to complete: about 2-3 hours.
