I was reading Unseen Academicals, which featured yet another scene of wizards freaking out over the thought of having to wear trousers.I wasn't surprised, but it suddenly struck me that the younger witches of Discworld, like Magrat and Miss Tick, prefer trousers. The only 'traditional clothing' required of witches is the hat (which the younger ones don't wear) and the color black (which the younger ones don't always stick to). But nobody would dare tell a witch what to wear except maybe another witch and - being witches - that would make the original witch even more determined to wear what they wanted. Also, with the wizard's robe - most of the current art I've seen of the Discworld puts the Ankh-Morpork citizens in almost Victorian fashion, yet the wizards are usually in fantasy/dark ages robes. I realize that they're supposed to be mired in tradition by . . . well, by tradition, but I thought I'd give my wizard a more modern robe, like a judge or an English lawyer. I've seen funny little signs of a woman in pants and a man in a kilt looking at the restroom sign, but I thought I'd do one of a witch and a wizard.
