Beaten Earth

You remember her breath as it caressed your hair, smelled her scent wash over you like freedom, From a long, dry, cracking heat- A stifling brittleness strangling all in its path. You waited for her coolness, her sighs, her whispers. Her sweet, enveloping embrace as she'd lift you up, strength beyond strength, still showing her delicate plumage to you. Coy, and proud, sensitive, and bold. She waited for you to care. To Move for her. Now your feet are scratched raw, burning, Searing beneath the skin. Your bones grind agaiinst the dust that cakes the wind, making a friction so invasive it freezes your marrow. No flesh, no moisture, only grinding, and a pallid holding of Breath. You feel her eyes upon you, Still holding, hoping, But it's gone too dry, You both close your eyes and drift away. (Gelatin Silver Print and Paint Shop Pro.)
