January 2006A painting from my novel-in-progress, Eclipse. The setting is the city of Dakaia, the religious and magical hub of my world - note the two massive spires in the background to the left of Varekai's head, one represents the lunar god, the other the solar god. Both spires are an attempt to touch the heavens that got a little out of hand. :) It probably wouldn't be practical to have them so stupidly tall in the real world, what with...gravity and all. But hey, that's what magic is for, right?Varekai isn't terribly fond of mages despite being born and bred in a culture that relies upon them. It's an interesting city, but bizarre and vaguely corrupt at the same time.Anyway, this is sort of old - with retrospect, there's a lot of anatomy issues, but I'm still pretty pleased with how the city itself turned out. Digitally painted from scratch in OpenCanvas 1.1 and Photoshop CS with a mouse.A larger version is available here.
