Kana glanced sideways, the heat of the fire burning his skin until his blood felt like it no longer existed, just hissed through his veins in a static buzz. His eyes were now deepening into a burnt red-black, the only noticeable sign of the strengthened presence of his God. Once again, immortal desires warred with his humanity, the blinding rush of life that flowed through him when The Dragon God made contact, a feeling of invincibility, of wind and sunlight. An elation like no other could bring.
They would be making their way up the volcano now. She would be able to hear the roar of the Dragon God's rage, stumbling terrified, blasted by the hot winds that blew incessantly towards the summit. The summit, where the ground caved in and became a bubbling pot of livid, raging, molten rock. The last sensation she would have would be pure heat, beyond anything she had ever felt before. Then she would feel nothing but the ecstasy of immortality as his God took her into his arms.
His face remained stony as the blackened walls around him, though his insides churned at the thought of sacrificing another child in the quest to keep his God alive. He wasn't sure he could look into the eyes of yet another petrified girl. There had to be another way.
