He seemed a continuation of the stone, carved in bloody tones of red and black. His face hidden under a mantle of shadow still exuded a nonchalant expression that seeped like an ichor into the rest of his body. I stood and stared for a moments, believing for a mere second that I had stumbled upon a handsome gargoyle, a flight of fancy of some long-dead sculptor.
Suddenly he lifted his head and I glimpsed the lower half of that chiselled face.
