Worn here by a mere human, ;) arani are the ceremonial headdress of Ailurian nobility. They're designed to reflect the clan affiliations and social position of the wearer (as well as his or her personality), unless those are so well-known that the noble need not consider them. They're pictured in several of the other Ailurian scenes in this gallery. The model and photographer here are both me.This particular aran is a lower-class one, with wooden beads and no chain whatsoever, in the colors of the respectable but unremarkable merchant house of Gle'an. The necklace is a simple restatement of the colors and club-in-diamond crest of the house, but is not as ostentatious as the multitudes of jewelry worn by members of Houses less secure in their level of nobility.
