Disclaimer: This is my vision of the Archangel Michael, not necessarily the traditional Michael of doctrine, though I've studied several different religions' accounts of him in order to make this picture.
I present to you the product of well over a month's worth of research and design. It was a learning experience for me when it came to blending light on flesh from two different sources as well as in drawing feathers and luminescent surfaces. Expect a tutorial on peacock feathers sometime in the hopefully not too distant future now that I've figured the little buggers out.
Michael-Who is Like God
His name became the warcry of the angels in Heaven during the rebellion of Lucifer and his legions. To some, he was born of the lowest choir of angels closest to mankind, yet he holds the position as the Prince of the Heaven. To others, he is the Christ before taking the form of a man.
I chose to depict Michael first for the series as I view him as my personal guardian, my muse, and someone whom I have a bond with from my own personal experiences. He serves as a patron for many, including soldiers, policemen, and those who are oppressed.
I have chosen to show him offering his sword in service of the Lord rather than assuming an aggressive posture to emphasize his role not only as the warrior of God, but an angel of patient repentence and fair retribution. Older stories commonly associate him with water (an element I also identify with) and purification, which is why I've shown him wading into a pool of water.
