In Western Lands

My favourite poem from Lord of the rings is undoubtedly Sam's 'In Western Lands beneath the sun.' It is so poignant and beautiful that it seems to stay with me during my day to day life as something to sing as I'm walking through the fields, or just on my way to work. In western lands beneath the Sun the flowers may rise in Spring the trees may bud, the waters run, the merry finches sing. Or there maybe 'tis cloudless night and swaying beeches bear the Elven-stars as jewels white amid their branching hair. Extract from J.R.R. Tolkien's Return of the King
