This is a portrait of Lasher and Stella from the series on the Mayfair Witches by Anne Rice. I drew this as I was finishing the book _The Witching Hour_ which is a detailed history of the Mayfair family in New Orleans - an old family of witches that hands down a legacy through a matrilineal line (the designated daughter inherits everything). This legacy includes a spirit who goes by the name of Lasher. He is referred to by the family and by people who have witnessed his appearances as 'the man'. If a person refers to 'the man', everyone else knows who they mean.Stella was one of the designées of the Mayfair legacy. In the history, she was shot in the head by her own brother in 1929 during one of her many parties. When she died, the legacy passed to her daughter.Lasher is freaky looking - he isn't supposed to look natural. I made his eyes very widely spaced to make him look weird and creepy. He also has an unnatural smile (he has to expend a lot of energy to smile or show any emotion whatsoever). He can only remain visible for a few minutes at a time because he runs out of energy quickly.
Completely painted in Photoshop with my Wacom tablet (from scratch, no underdrawing). I got pretty lazy with this drawing - I didn't care to colour it very carefully and the line art remains sketchy. I liked it that way, but think it's too bad that the colour is so flat. I just couldn't do it anymore! >_<
