Treacherous Demons

The nightmare. . .  Oh, God, let me wake from this horrible nightmare.  The demons are everywhere, and nowhere is safe.  May this torture end when I wake up.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Okay, I can honestly say I've never actually had a dream like that before.  This was actually inspired by a painting called Guardian Angels by Dorothea Tanning, a surrealist painter in the 1920's.  Tanning's version has a strange, dreamlike quality to it made all the more prominent by beds placed about the picture.  It gives the viewer a sense of fantasy and security.  In mine, I went for the complete opposite.  I made it harsh and dark, as though I were painting Hell itself, complete with coffins (which are kinda hard to make out, I know).  No, for those who know me, the stuff in the foreground is not a dragon.  It is a strange compilation of claws and wings rendered with a pallette knife.  For those of you who have never wielded a pallette knife before, a strange, primordial pleasure comes from literally slapping globs of paint on a canvas.
