'Rising out of the border of tall grass were the large forms of Basetians…Liontaurs. Large and bulky creatures, they should’ve been spotted by the outer perimeter watchers that were stationed on the ground. The fact that these creatures managed to sneak by or quiet the outer guards, coupled with tiger-like stripes covering their albino-white fur, told him who they were in an instant. 'The Brotherhood of Saladin. They were an order of protectors and warriors made up solely of the rare, outcast offspring of the Basetian Liontaurs and their cousins, the Tigaurs. Some called them the noblest of all the peoples of the planet. Others called them pompous snobs who believed themselves to each be an avatar of the eldest of the god children. Whatever the case, it was always best to be able to call them comrades rather than opponents' The Basetians (the name loosely based on the Egyptian feline goddess) were created for a fantasy story I had first conceived of in 1996. I've never gotten around to finishing the tale, but like this piece enough to keep it. It's a pencil sketch I later inked. ca.1997 Pencil and ink
