Investigating a Monolith

The following is an excerpt from the personal log of the ship's chaplin onboard the E.N.V. Orion Reg-49h2168d4. Today we arrived at Sub-space Intersection Artifact Alpha. As usual visiting a 'Monolith'; as they are often called, has caused disruption to normal ship operations. The whole of the science department is over-excited; they seem sure that the Salui sensors we recovered from the ruins on Alcaron will reveal some clue to their origin. Of the few crew members that do not follow the true faith, two seem awed to be near the Monolith, they spend all of their spare time in meaningless prayer, as though that huge device were divine! I would be angry at the blasphemy, if it wern't so laughable. The navigators are keeping to themselves; our proximity to the artifacts enhances their powers making it uncomfortable for them to be around the rest of the crew. With any luck our visit will be brief, I for one; cannot wait!
