The lizard Ishgalnera heraldicus is a swamp-dwelling predator of the flooded rainforests that ring Lake Arucara of Southern Iapetus. It dives into the water in order to feed on aquatic invertebrate, fish, like the pair of conchosalmids Limnaeosalmus arucara or the small predator, Rhynchoesox viridens, and small animals, as well as choice vegetable matter. I. heraldicus feeds only in the water, as it spends almost all of its time out of water sunbathing, or resting. In fact, its long hindfeet, which help propell it through the water, make movement on land, at the very least, very awkward, as such, it eschews any and all potential food items on land, including the Aurobufo erythyemas that are gathering about it.
Rudy Kaplan went to China with his girlfriend Lonnie, and his best friend, Gill. Let's just say that he's brought back a big problem, in that, he's now a weretiger. Pictures by A. Lew Lashmit and Paul C. Diggs.
