Alan Gutierrez

I started in 1976 drawing celebrity actresses, moving on to Sci-Fi/Fantasy subjects after 'Star Wars' in 1977. I entered Art Center College of Design in 1979, and graduated with a BFA in Illustration in 1982. I got my first pro sale in 1981 for the cover of 'Rigel' Prozine, and the first major cover sale for 'The Lagrangists' by Mack Reynolds for Tor Books in 1983. Since then, I've done about 300 covers, for Tor, Baen, Berkley/Ace, Bantam, Pocket, Analog/Asimov's Magazine, Tonka Toys, Popular Mechanics, FASA, and Steve Jackson Games. Plus interior art for Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy Magazine, Aboriginal SF, Analog/Asimov's, and Sovereign Stone Press. In addition to SF/F jobs, I spend time doing Anime Fantasy Realism, both commissioned work and on my own. AFR is anime fanart is a realistic/fantasy style-not anime style art. It conforms totally with my own SF/F background. I hope to give myself more exposure to the realm of SF/F and Anime fandom here at Elfwood. I'm always available for commissions at very reasonable prices.
