From my Pen Sketchbook Project: another example of the non-traditional-anthro things that I draw for myself. I've drawn these sphinx-guys for years, but never thought to post them; still, they're good examples of the weird things I draw for fun. You may remember my Sphinx-Fleur (Dandy-Lions) - the sphinx-things I draw are similar, but they actually have quite a background. I imagined them in a fanciful Scheherezade/Arabian Nights setting, or kind of a mix of Indian, Middle Eastern, and Egyptian cultures, with some advanced/futuristic technology thrown in, and lots of arabesques, tapestries, and arches, too. They exist along humans, but are treated as semi-dieties and often are High Scholars or Guardians. The males often have scorpion-like tail-tips, inspired by (if not appearing like) the Scorpion Men of ancient Babylon, though appearances vary. The males have names like Bo'Az and Bo'Atran. I would love to do more with them, perhaps a painting or two, but heck, these Pen Sketchbook sketches are from a while back and I'm only just getting to post them now; we'll see what the future holds. For more information on my Pen Sketchbook Project, please check it out at my website (www.synnabar.com) The pieces are all done with what little bits of free time I have. RSVP Pen.
