Kara was an NPC from a D & D campaign I was running. She was the little sister of one of the characters who followed them off on their grand adventure with every intention of becoming a mighty warrior. Thinking back, I'm not sure what exactly inspired me to carve her rather then one of the story's more prominent characters. Kara is the oldest, and therefore crudest, carving in the gallery. She stands about 6" tall and is basswood painted in dollar store acrylics. Of note however is her shield, carved seperately and made of cedar. This is the first and only time I've used 2 different woods in the same carving. I like the effect but to be honest, I only did it because I had a bunch of cedar off-cuts lying around.
