Desert mage was an experiment in perspective drawing with photoshop based on a theme that came to mind at the time. I liked the idea of a desert mage positioned at the threshold of a temple or other magical complex casting a spell out into the desert. I remember drawing the background first, including the jade runes on the middle ground structure so I used that motif for the spell effect and the hand symbol. I attempted to give the image a vague mezzo-American feel to it which is offset by the racially transplanted feel of the figure. I liked the idea of having a foreigner character who’s been partiallyassimilated into his environment as the focal point of the image.
