Idril Celebrindal

The battle/invasion of Gondolin is described in great detail, down to house colors and captains' names, over roughly 30 pages of tiny, tiny print in 'The Lost Tales, Book II' by the Prof. Bright banners and Elven Valour aside, however, the story of Idril and Tuor made me want to cry. It tells that near the invasion, Idril was watched day and night by Maeglin, the King's foster-nephew kinda guy, or his men, or something like that...this is meant to show her fear and her paranoia. Towards the end, *spoilers inherent!!!* Maeglin actually captures her, as she was his reward for his betrayal of the city to Morgoth, and the way Tolkien wrote it just struck a chord with me, and thus became the caption. This is also one of the closest attempts at a background I'm likely to get off my butt and do. Shocking, I know...maybe you'd better sit down...
