The great surf artists (and inspirations) Van Dutch and Rick Griffin both developed versions of the flying eyeball, Van Dutch being the original. The difference between mine and theirs was theirs had feathered wings, mine have leathery batlike wings, am working on a mouthed version and a piece where they are battling along side an amazon. This is from the first studies I did in pencil. I did a piece in Superpaint about 9 years ago, it featured 3 flying eyeballs landing in surfboards on a stormy lightning filled night. The piece is gone, by the time I could find someone who could convert the Superpaint image to jpg or gif format, the disk was unreadable. It was the first piece I did solely on computer. I really liked it. I may still redo it in airbrush, someday.
