To Die is to Live: Painting

Sci fi/Fantasy image by

For my illustration class, we were told to design a mask and costume based on our inner selves. Then, by surprise, she told us we had a week to actually make these costumes. This is a picture of me in the costume that my friend, Ross took for me. The mask is hand crafted, made of plastic, plaster, gause, wire, masking tape, paper, gesso, and acrylic paint. The costume is cotton with plastic beads sewn to the edge of the sleeves. We then had to create a painting based on the photographs. The mask, costume, and painting are based on a portrayal of life and death, and my two sides: dark and demented, and calm and peaceful.
