This is a part of the Deva series I am working on currently.. Som/Soma or Chandra, is the Hindu Moon-god. He is the son of Atri muni and his wife Anusuya both of whom were spiritually advanced mystics. There are many interesting stories related to Chandra.. He is sometimes considered the cup which holds the celestial drink Soma for the gods... Som courses through all living things as the blood of animals and the sap of plants and as a drink, Somras is the ambrosia of the gods..When the moon waned, it was because gods were drinking all the Som; as it waxed, Chandra was re-creating himself, only to be consumed again once the cup was full! Giving an indication of the astronomical knowledge oh the ancients, in one of the Vedas it is said that Sun's rays named Sushumna nourish the Moon during its brighter phase.. With his rays, the Sun nourishes the Moon, which loses its strength because of drinking of its ambrosia by the gods. Chandra is also a very handsome god and notorious for flirting with all eligible heavenly damsels.. he also got to marry 27 daughters of Daksha, the son of creator-god Brahma, each of whom correspond to his 27 phases..The background is a picture of the full moon from nightskyinfo.com and is free for use by anyone.. i used it coz it gave a perfect background for my impish and flirtatious Chandra :)
