Something I did for my 8-year-old niece last weekend when she was hanging out with us; she's a lot of fun to talk to and be around, and she's very smart with an active imagination to boot. I asked her what her favorite fantasy creature was and she immediately said Pegasus, adding that her favorite horse was the mustang. So I whipped out one of my Breyer models to help with a reference and got to work.I wanted to keep it fairly simple but really dramatic, especially since I was doing it for 8-year-old. Kids are very visual but don't usually have the same fascination to detail that comes when you're older. She watched me throughout the sketching and coloring process, getting progressively more and more excited at how cool it looked. Even I'm pretty pleased with it, since I don't do enough horsies, even though I love them. The background was entirely her idea; she wanted clouds, and I wanted night sky. So she suggested that the pegasus brought the sun in the morning to end the night. It was too good to pass up, so this is the result. Scan as usual butchered the colors and smooth blending; the dark to light transitions are a lot more subtle in the real thing than it is here. Done in various flesh toned Copic Ciao markers, Prismacolor markers, chalk pastels, gel pen, Derwent Coloursoft pencils, and some graphite shading here and there.
