First of all, she's not schizophrenic. -_-' It's a metaphorical duality. This picture evolved from something I noticed as I was writing (erk...more like re-re-writing) my primary novel series Heart of the Drayken. In the beginning of the first book, the main character, Zeal Drakeianu (aka Dracky), has unintentionally compartmentalized two distinct parts of herself, the Rebel and the Refugee, as a result of a life spent pretending to be something she is not in order to avoid trouble. The Rebel is the side of her that hates hiding, the one that yearns to show her true colors and capabilities despite the danger. The Refugee is the side that accepts the fact that her reality is too dangerous, and is willing to hide part of herself in order to survive. In these first chapters, Dracky usually considers the Rebel an annoyance, constantly fighting it to keep herself from doing something rash. The funny thing is...by the end of the book the Rebel is the one she must embrace, fully accepting her role as Heart of the Drayken. To hide away as the Refugee--which is a tempting option by the end--would spell disaster. Anywho, Dracky is my most beloved character, having been with me for over ten years (and evolved a lot over those years...), and I've always had trouble drawing her. I think I'm finally satisfied with this rendition though. We'll see. (And if it wasn't obvious, the Rebel is the one with the fire, and the Refugee is the cloaked one.)
