This is the scanned hi-res version of the huge sized, highly detailed commission. And here we are. Many months down the line and I have completed the EPIC battle commission for Alez Hatton as an illustration for his Sci-fi novel to come. This is A1 sized heavyweight card. Background is watercolour paint (with some acrylic paint for blood and shadowing). Characters are a mix of Polychromo, watersoluble, other assorted coloured pencils, white gel pen, permanent black fineline pens, sharpie black marker, coloured ink fineline pens and acrylic paint. There are over 62 full and partial (literally, heh heh) characters in this piece, all with different poses and individual tattoos and armour. As with other artwork done for Alex Hatton's the characters were drawn from wonderfully detailed written descriptions; I drew all the concepts initially, working with him to get the look of each just right. A brief comment on what's going on here:The battle takes place in the camp of the Triphons (yellow creatures) The chizard hordes descend upon the camp; consisting of multiple races: Reds (obvious which those are), Water (blue ones obviously), Jungle/forest (bright green), Swamp (quadrupedal brown), Mountain (rugged/rough rust-coloured) and Pygmy (little grey ones). The Triphons are loosing the battle (as are the Illiaks that fight for them (black red-eyed blue-blooded creatures whose design has since changed radically)).I'm not going to say any more on this, the story's synopsis is in the commissioner's hands. Art © Zha'krisstol (a.k.a.
