This web page is part of a hosted copy of the WoodWorks eZine at Elfwood.  (#203)
The eZine is no longer updated, nor does it have it's own domain left... This also means that it's no use to contact the WoodWorks editors, etc, etc...

You know you're addicted to Elfwood when...
by The Elfwood LJ
  1. The News & Updates page is your browser homepage.

  2. Your fingers automatically type elfwood.lysator.liu.se while you were trying to go to another site.

  3. Your bookmarks/favorites folder consists entirely of gallery addresses.

  4. You keep checking the News & Updates page just in case Mirar or Camille updated in the last 5 minutes.

  5. You ask strangers you meet on the street to plug their gallery.

  6. You think other amateurs artists who don't have a gallery or God forbid, have never heard of Elfwood are losers.

  7. All of your online friends are from Elfwood.

  8. You can find still track down an artist you found before even though you've forgotten his name and URL.

  9. You know exactly how long Elfwood was down each time it goes down.

  10. You realize that you had absolutely nowhere else to go when Elfwood closed.

  11. You browse an image archive that doesn't label their pictures (they're used without permission, of course) and can identify which ones came from Elfwood.

  12. You have a gallery in Lothlorien, Zone 47, FanQuarter, a shelf in Wyvern's Library, have written for FARP, have been to the IRC channels, is subscribed to all Elfwood mailing lists and is a member of all the Elfwood Livejournals.

  13. You pimp out Elfwood to any non-Elfwoodian you meet, even if they can't draw or write.

  14. "Farp this!" has been smoothly integrated into your daily vocabulary.

  15. You have a windows shortcut key to open up your browser to Elfwood.

  16. You hit this key every time you sign on, whether you intended to or not.

  17. You feel incomplete if you go one day without hitting the Random feature.

  18. You feel a necessity to check if the Artist/Writer of the Day is following the Elfwood Rules.

  19. You do the 'first comment dance' when people are asking for your advise on anything.

  20. You update your Elfwood gallery before you make changes to your own website.

  21. You haven't watched the News for a month but you know exactly what's going on with Mirar and Thomas.

  22. You check what's going on in the Elfwood LJ community before you update your own journal.

  23. You add elf ears or fairy wings to any figure drawing you do.

  24. Your art teacher notices that all of your assignments somehow have angels, mermaids, flying saucers, and such incorporated into them.

  25. You remember where you were when Elfwood closed down as if it were the shooting of JFK.

  26. You refreshed Elfwood every hour during the down time to check for updates.

  27. When you first saw that Elfwood was back up, you scanned in all your drawings you'd done within the last month, only to find they weren't doing updates yet.

  28. You do the "first comment dance" when leaving a review on Amazon.com.

  29. You thought the term "Lothlorien" was invented by Thomas.

  30. You hit the "send/receive" button over and over when it's time to get your daily comments in the mail.

  31. You have an extra browser set to Elfwood; not because you are looking at anything there, but because you feel lost without it.

  32. You actually DO a comment dance in a real world gallery.

  33. You peruse a real world gallery with your friends and point out how some of the anatomy in the paintings is "off".

  34. You have Elfwood wallpaper on your computer desktop.

  35. Receiving the comment emails is the highlight of the day!

  36. Your artwork suffers when Elfwood is down (too depressed to paint).

  37. You get depressed when your latest update receives no comments (it has been there for five whole minutes after all).

  38. When your latest update receives no comments at all by the end of the day, your life is in ruins.

  39. You wear Elfwood t-shirts; have an Elfwood mouse pad and the Elfwood logo on your mobile phone.

  40. Everything you draw or paint is constrained by your scanners proportions.

  41. You automatically check every picture you save is under 100 kb.

  42. You have the daily comments requested but you still manually check your comments as well, in case it missed one.

  43. You check your comments twice a day to try to catch a new comment before the e-mail comes.

  44. Fifty pictures just don't seem like many at all.

  45. Whenever you start to draw something you make sure it fits the right theme so you can put it in Elfwood.

  46. Every time you get a photo of yourself developed, you assess it for user pic potential.

  47. You lose sleep over which precious creation to remove from your gallery when it's full, but the chaos around you in your house doesn't get a second glance.

  48. You visit the Artist/Writer of the day EVERY DAY.

  49. You read the "News and Features" every day even though you know they don't post something every day.

  50. You respond to every comment ever put in your gallery.

  51. You update your galleries SEVERAL times a week.

  52. You have to create several different folders for "favorite" related to Elfwood because otherwise the list would be overwhelming.

  53. You visit MULTIPLE galleries a day and comment in all of them.

  54. You find yourself drawing/writing more just because you are a member of Elfwood.

  55. You slip in the fact that you have an Elfwood gallery into every chatroom conversation you can and then you ever so nicely give the person a link.

  56. You answer every comment posted - Even the ones you made yourself (Yes, hands up, I've done it).

  57. You need to consider buying a new Hard Drive / removing non-essential programs from your hard drive because you have run out of room due to an excessive favorites folder with Elfwood Shortcuts.

  58. You need to check every hour to see if there are new comments on your page? Try every 15 minutes.

  59. You loose sleep when the number of comments in one day on your gallery is less than a self-predetermined figure, wondering to yourself what went wrong.

  60. The first thing you do in the morning before even breakfast, washing, putting on clothes etc.... is log online and check out your galleries, the artist of the day, the news section and all four Elfwood LiveJournal communities.

The editor would like to thank the various members of Elfwood LJ who contributed to this list. Most of which, you would agree, need professional help.

Think that's bad? Try this one:

You know you've overused the Random button when...

  1. You come to one of your own pictures.
  2. You get the same artist more than once.
  3. You get the same picture more than once.
  4. You keep landing on pictures with a "Queued by the ERB" button over it.
  5. You begin to notice a pattern in the supposed randomness.
  6. You end up making a tour of pictures you've found while using the random button.
  7. You notice that the pattern in the supposed randomness corresponds with the rhyme scheme of a poem you just read.

Can you think of any more? Send them in!
