'Tales of a Wandering Monster' by Christel R. Chancy
Story, Incomplete: fantasy
Two parts, a prologue and the first chapter. I must say, very Interesting. It has a wry sense of humor, the kind I like... not at all gothic and dark for halloween, but I laugh at most people on halloween, so why not funny vampires (or dhampir, as the case may be)...

'Cute L'il Dead Things' by Rhonda J. Jezek
Short Story: horror
The title says 'cute li'l dead things', and indeed it is. Well, no... It is more gory than cute. An Interesting take on vampires at least. Which is good...

'Ghost Story' by Lindsey Butler
Short Story: horror
Short ghost story. Not very scary, more funny and eerie. Reminds me of that time my friend was possessed...

'The Ghosts of Ravensgard' by Cindy Rosenthal
Stand Alone: horror
Interesting ghost story, very well narrated. Interesting characters and setting too. Sounds very believable as a legend...

'A Lady In Space by Tina R. Walls
Stand Alone: sci-fi
Ghooooosts iiiinnnn spaaaaace... Sorry, muppets moment there. I don't think I have read a story like that yet. Wish there was more at the end.

'The Grey Lady' by Alana M. Poirier
Stand Alone: fantasy
Ghost story in the making. Great, now I am thinking about spooky places with ghosts...

'There Were No Prisons' Foo Sek Han
Stand Alone: modern fantasy
Hilarious! I want a ghost/poltergeist now...

'A Day to Remember' by Rachelle Benoit
Stand Alone: horror
Julian just hates Halloween, and Allison is determined to prove to him that Halloween is fun. Can Julian escape the terror that threatens to overtake him?

'Hallowe'en' by Amarantha Francoise Dynaaxchs
Poem: fantasy
A poem that the author is adding to constantly, all about Halloween it its various forms and faces.

'The Tearing of the Sky' by Anna Simmons
Short Story: Horror
On a dark, gusty Halloween night, all the people of Silver Springs disappear.

'The Light in the Bell Tower' by Amanda C. Hopkins
Short Story: Horror
The bell tolls thirteen times. A strange glow is seen in the Bell Tower. Four friends unearth an ancient spell. What will happen when they confront the Bell Tower haunting?

Thank you to everyone who recommended stories this month, even those that didn't make the final cut. We thoroughly enjoyed reading them and we just wish we'd had room to include them all.

Michael CW Smith is a cynical coot who gets roped into things.... is also a firm believer that he can type however he damned well pleases and if any english purists complain, he can show them a little thing called his fist (yes... -very- threatening... veeerry... cough cough)...
Brandie Minchew is a starry-eyed believer in fairy tales, world peace, and justice for all.

Submission Information

Woodworks goes back to the future (ok...me bad) this November, we are taking in stories that feature cyberpunks, robots, cool spaceships, the sci-fi world and anything you would associate with Elfwood's Zone 47.

We have certain guidelines for recommending. Be sure what you recommend not only follows the rules of Elfwood, but that it has also been spell-checked, and the writer shows a basic understanding of grammar. We're looking for the best of the best, so spelling and grammar are important. That said, just fill out the form below, and answer all of the questions. If a field is left blank, we're just as likely to ignore your rec.
