Help keep Woodworks online!
|
This web page is part of a hosted copy of the WoodWorks eZine at Elfwood. (#132) The eZine is no longer updated, nor does it have it's own domain left... This also means that it's no use to contact the WoodWorks editors, etc, etc... | | |
Elfwood Competitions
by Gretchen Sveda
Each month, we will be announcing a new Elfwood competition, open to both our artists and our writers.
Winners will be chosen by our readers via a poll, and the winner each month will have their choice of a donation made to Elfwood in their name, or a gift certificate for Ellen Million Graphics merchandise.
In future competitions we may also be offering a choice of signed original artwork donated by members.
All entries will be displayed in our Competition Gallery and the winning entry each month will be featured in this column and in the Elfwood Hall of Champions.
Good luck and have fun!

Postcards from Atlantis
A favourite legend of many, the story of Atlantis is both intriguing and inspiring. Many theories have arisen around it, some believe it really existed and others believe it exists only in myths and legends.
For this months competition, we'd like to you to depict your concept of what Atlantis might have been like.
You can create the city itself, or the people who lived there (or both).
It's up to you which time line you place it in - it could be before or after the events that caused it to disappear beneath the sea, it could be set in the past, present or future, you could even place it on another world or have it hanging in space.
Again, this competition is open to artists and writers, and don't forget that collaborations are acceptable.
Good luck and have fun :)

Bad Fairy Contest
Fairies are generally thought of as cute little girls with clothing made of flowers (usually pink), and butterfly wings. They're very pretty, but there are many different sorts of fae and we'd like to make a tribute to the bad fairies out there.
We'd like you to depict your ultimate bad fairy, she/he doesn't necessarily have to be evil, but should definitely not be a cute little girl with a blossom dress ;)
Your entry can be in any setting - high/modern fantasy, sci fi, you could put them in an alley behind a gas station if you liked...
'Bad' is a word that can be interpreted many ways, and just about all of them are ok here :)

Announcing the Winners of our March Competition:
|
Shakespeare Shuffle
Our March competition was to create a scene from your favourite Shakespeare play, but give it a fantasy/science fiction/horror twist. You could turn the characters into cyborgs, or dragons, or change the setting to a space ship or unusual planet.
We had some great entries, and because we had both written and visual entries submitted, we decided to give two prizes.
Our winning artist entry was Kelly Travelstead with The Balcony Scene from Romeo and Juliet.
Our winning written entry was Sarah Hogan with Shards from Titus Andronicus.
Congratulations!
