Elfwood Staff Profiles Edited by Dawn-Earth Maloney
Gretchen Sveda lives in Auckland, New Zealand and works as an NT Security Analyst for a large IT provider.
What do you do for the Elfwood community and how long have you been doing it for?
I'm a moderator with various roles within the mod structure including recruiter mod, support mod, and webmaster for the mod's website. I look after several of the official Elfwood LJ's although I'm stepping down from some of them shortly. I created and coordinate the competitions page, and up until last issue I was the recommended art chick at Woodworks. Years involved with Elfwood would be about three.
What are your most and least favorite things about your Elfwood job?
Interacting with the other staff and members, most of whom are in countries I've never seen and know nothing about. Also, I enjoy helping people out.
My least favorite part of the job is rejecting things when it's obviously something that an artist has put a lot of effort into, but just doesn't fit within the rules.
How did you become involved with the Elfwood community? Do you have any links or galleries to share with us?
I expressed an interest in putting my artwork online, and a friend gave me a link to Elfwood. Later when I got an LJ, I found the Elfwood LJ which lead to my volunteer work through people I met there. Lothlorien, Zone 47, Library.
Do you have any alter egos? If so, who, what, where, when, why and how?
I'm not sure quite what you mean by that. I don't have an alter ego as such, my username everywhere is GSveda - not very original but easily recognizable and never taken :)
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Seriously, my greatest achievement to date was becoming independent, despite the odds being stacked against me.
I left a bad situation at home (while I was still at highschool) at 16. At the time I was earning $60 per week at a supermarket, and paying $50 per week in rent. But I managed to survive on $10 a week, and left school at the end of that year. I did a basic typing and office skills course and entered the workforce. I don't have any formal qualifications at all, and yet I've worked my way up to a job that requires them to even apply for it. I'm happy with where I am, and have plans for where I'm going.
What is your greatest fear?
The thought that I could disappear and nobody would realize I wasn't there anymore.
Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Further up the food chain in my chosen industry (IT), and seriously creating printable art and selling it. I'd also like to look into getting a couple of my stories published.
What annoyance do you feel the world would be a better place without?
Traffic jams
What is your signature song, tune or melody?
Dreaming Tree, by Dave Matthews
If you could choose any talent, which one would you love to have?
I'd really love to be able to sing. I'd really love to have a powerful voice with a good register and the talent to write meaningful songs.
If given a choice, how would you like to die?
Peacefully in my sleep, after a very long happy day.
Would you like a cookie?
Oooh yes please :)
Who is your favorite author or artist? What is your favorite piece of their work and do you have a link to it?
Wendy Froud, she makes amazing dolls and I covet all of them.
Do you prefer white, milk, dark, semi-sweet or double chocolate?
Actually, I like bittersweet chocolate. Or when I'm feeling extravagant I like the ones with liqueur in the middle.
Termites are... (fill in the blank).
Termites are crazy.
Gette is... (fill in the blank).
Gette is the termite queen.
Pajamas?
Big authentic ugly Englishman's pajamas, that I acquired from an authentic ugly Englishman. They're great, flannel with paisley or toothpaste stripes on them. Or if it's too warm for flannel PJ's, comfy tee-shirt and boxer shorts.
Give us a brief description of yourself along with a random fact unique to you.
Random fact about myself, my nose clicks if you press your finger against the end of it.
Brief description of myself: I'm short and round, feisty and loud. I giggle like a schoolgirl and scold like a schoolmarm. I like to wear lots of sparkles for special occasions, and am extremely fond of cats, and dying my hair red. If you ply me with boysenberry wine and feta cheese I will be your friend forever.
