Great intro too, man I just love your inking and your coloring is sooo clean and clear, what do you use??? To color that is?? James Lara replies: "I originally draw in pencil #2, tried blue line hated it. Then I ink with Microns and Faber-Castell's PITT artist pens( I actually like the FB's they're cheaper) Then scan into Paint Shop Pro 6 by JASC. Manipulate colors for about 3 times longer than it took me to originally draw in pencil, and ink. Still experimenting with the program to figure out quicker way."

I'm fairly sure the wings are from the Angel of the X-men, and the black and white body is from an old Dr. Strange villain, the In-Betweener. I thought the artwork on Elfwood was supposed to be original? James Lara replies: "Actually, this is an original piece, if you're going to judge a book by its cover, at least try to read the book. If you're going to nitpick then perhaps DC should sue Marvel for using their Hawkman "idea", or vice-versa, just because someone (especially a superhero) has wings, does not mean they're a knock-off, and as far as In-betweener goes, the "harlequin" motiff has been used for centuries, and is not a trademark concept. So, as I have already been through this with the moderators, my characters are very much so original. So, why don't you put a gallery, and see how original you are?"

The being of evil and good, beautifully rendered here (although I think you could take the idea a little further and give him one deamon wing as well as one angel, but i've been seeing that so much lately that it's definately riding a cliche). The alternating colours are very nicely done...I've noticed you have a knack for using black and effectively shading, something I've yet to comprehend. When I first saw the background colour, i was thinking it would clash, but the sunsetish effect really does work when you see more than just the thumbnail...think the top is still too bright for this type of a character though. The question that presents itself most, however, is about his personality. Being a creature of good and evil, who obviously tends to be on the more evil side, i imagine he's constantly in a state of disagreement with himself. Either that, or he's just perfectly balanced, but his behaviour seems to dictate otherwise...gah, i'm going crazy anazyzing the possibilities! ^_^ James Lara replies: "I do like the bright backgrounds, can't explain it but I do. Perhaps, I should try harder on making a background? There is always a little good in all of us, and Eklipse has to live with that. Considering he's such an evil guy."

Love the clothing and the wings especially James Lara replies: "Boy, you have been a busy commentator haven't you. I am putting you in the top 10 fans list. (There isn't really a list, but you'd be on it. LOL) Thank you again Chris"
| 13 Jan 2003 | Josh | Loading...Hey I love the wings! The little dark flame/energy around his hands is also awesome. I was viewing this site since Saturday when I was introduced to it. Tried to draw a character like this *sigh* Not even close Awesome Job! Keep it up and you will have your own comic book! James Lara replies: "Thanks Josh, I appreciate that. Hopefully you can let me know when you have work in the woods, I'd love to see it..." | |
