This is Tariq which means nocturnal visitor. The name just seemed to fit him because all the others lacked something. The photo you see, in my opinion, looks better than the original. It gives more definition to his eye. This is the first legitimate attempt I've made at drawing a griffin and I did it somewhat quickly. I think it turned out pretty good for the time I spent on it. It took a little while to get the eye just right so he didn't look uninteligent but it payed off. I don't know what kind of background would be best behind Tariq and I didn't want to screw up the drawing so have fun imagining him where ever you think best, which shouldn't be very hard for this crowd. My first piece published on Elfwood.

Awsome shading!!! I adore your griff!!! 1

:-) MeAgain Webber replies: "1 Thanks! When I started it was only going to be a halfhearted attempt but then I decided to try...and it turned out better than I expected"

very good, i like his nails/claws & also the eye1

i can imagine him sitting on top of a cliff with a few branches about & the open sky behind it1

:-) MeAgain Webber replies: "Thanks 2 Like I said in the caption, his eye wasn’t the easiest to get right but a bald eagle picture for reference helped.

I might add a background later but idk. Usually when I finish a pencil/pen piece it sits for a while before getting any scenery."

sweet. its like a story book illistration.

:-) MeAgain Webber replies: "Really? I didn’t think of it that way...Thanks!"

I like the use of browns, and that you pushed yourself beyond a half hearted attempt. Keep pushing your limits, and you’re abilities will keep improving. Any chance you could tilt it upright so I don’t hurt my neck looking at it? LOL

:-) MeAgain Webber replies: "Too many of my attempts in past years have ended at the sketchy-outline so I’m going to try not to do that so much any more. Good things can result from something that seems like it won’t turn out half-way decent. Thanks for leaving a comment

And I might eventually turn him right-side-up but I don’t know when exactly..."

Kind of hurt the head to look sideways like that for an extended period of time. 21 I really like the name, it certainly has some weight to it. Very appropriate for your creation. What language is the name from, considering that you said its meaning? Or was the meaning added to the name?

The shine and the sharpness of the claws and the bill look exquisite, far better than what I can do. The shape of the wing looks really elegant. The hair looks pretty wiry from my perspective yet the tail tuft looks fine and soft, not to mention fun to play with. 1 The eye looks amazing, it was definitely worth the effort, very detailed. I like how the head is very eagle like, not easy to accomplish. Well done.

As for critiquing, it looks like it only has one ear...*angles head*.. the front limb looks like it needs more limb...*angles head*.. the feet look a little too big for the body...*angles head*.. the chest needs a little more body...*angles head*.. and the detail of the wings seem like they should be softer and more subtle, with less bold lines, like how the outside of the wing was done, which was done really well. Maybe try looking at a picture of a real wing (had to study duck wings till my head hurt for bird ID) it really puts things in perspective on the anatomy.

Hope this helps, and I certainly hope to see more of your works!
*massages neck* *tease with silly grin* 1

:-) MeAgain Webber replies: "Yeah I’m working on uploading a picture of him right-side-up. You aren’t the first to mention a sore neck after looking at this guy 12 I’m not sure exactly what language Tariq comes from. I look up unusual names on BabyNames.com for characters I create so I made a list but I didn’t include origin.

Thanks for the complements and critiques! It’s always refreshing to have someone tell you what you can improve on. Now that you mention it his feet do look kind of hard to lift into flight & the lower part of his chest looks a bit flat. And I bet you know your wings so note-to-self: softer lines. Maybe I’ll do wings with only a tortillon...that seems like it would work."
