The dragon sleeps,
Calm and peaceful.
Has been sleeping
For centuries
A young dragon,
Rarely stirring.
Wars came and
Went, Marco Polo
Came and went,
British took over
Hong Kong, China
Turned communist,
Then back to democratic,
All this is in the past,
And she doesn't like to be
In the past.
An earthquake shakes
The surrounding hills, valleys, and
Even mountains.
The earthquake strikes the lair
Of the sleeping Lung,
Jostling her from her
Sleep rudely.
She is not angry,
For she is a peaceful,
Benevolent dragon.
She opens her immense jaws
And yawns.
A peace-loving benefactor
Of the land she is,
Having nothing to do with it.
She says to herself,
(In her mind),
"Damn this quake,
I shall never sleep again!"
And so she starts to dig.
And dig her way
Through the rubble
She does with a passion
Unknown by many
For avery long time.
From the earth she appeared,
Covered with dirt, rock, and pieces of sod.
She roars triumphantly,
Flame spewing forth.
How troubled she is,
Not to mention tired,
As she heads to the river
To take a drink.
And she knew that it
Was her turn
To descend
To beneath the Earth,
To guard the vast treasures
Stored there.
And at last,
She was happy-
All without a casualty.
