This is the first 'Orixa' I drawn, and I am not satisfied with the result :P, soon I'll make it better. The Orishas are Spirits from the old religion of the Iorubah Nation, Candombleh. I am not an adept of Candombleh, indeed I respect the religion and its spiritual vision of the world too much. So, Oshumare is the big snakes who links earth and sky, when the supreme god yorubah (what cannot be represented because he has no face), called Olorum, created the world, he tooks to oshumare the task of look the world. As like all the Orishas, Oshumare have colors , all the colours of the raibow. Oh, Oshumare has no sex or, in fact, have both of them.

This is the first time I've ever heard about or seen any images of a serpentine style creature from your area. I think you've done a beautiful job on it and would love to know more regarding it. Is there a place on the net where I could read about this?

Orisha of the Rainbow. It is considered a great rainbow serpent which appears in the sky symbolizing a blessing for humanity.

I think the picture is pretty. There seems to be little information about Oshumare. Oshumare is becoming mentioned more these days.Perhaps there will be a book written by someone honest and knowlegeable. alafia!

Please visit my site: www.mariagiuliaalemanno.com where you can find "my personal" idea of Ochumare. Hope you’ll like it. I’ve already painted twelve orishas and shown them around the world. Good luck.
