SciFi and Fantasy Art Faerie Queen by Alon Rand

Third in my series of my 'I'm going to actually do art of quality, dammit!' series. Fairly obviously, she's a faerie queen. I was somewhat worried that she'd be confused with an unusual interpretation of an angel (feather-ish wings, and the crown as a halo), but I've been assured by several people that's not really a serious danger. My mental image of this when its finished includes several pixie-size faeries flitting around her, and possibly some other things, like bodaks and such, peeking around trees in the background. Its a fairly ambitious image, and it'll be a while before I get around to it.

I like the hair 2. I can't draw curly hair at all, so I'm a bit jeallous 2.
But I think the feet are strange. The part near the heels, if you get what I mean. And I'm not sure whether the knees should look like that either...
All in all, it's a good picture 2.

By the way, the wings are from W.I.T.C.H., but you didn't drew them exactly the same, well done!

:-) Alon Rand replies: "Not sure what "W.I.T.C.H." is, but I didn't base the wings off of it. If they're similar to something else out there, I'm not really shocked, but that wasn't where I got the idea. It was actually a combination of many things that inspired this interpretation of fae wings."

I saw Blue next to this one, and the lines were exactly the same, also the hands! I know that the hair is different, and also the expression, and I can believe that you used that pic for example, but then you have no rights to put it on Elfwood, after changing some things. Here pose you took also from a picture, because, as I said, I know I've seen it before. Gee, you really think that I care what you say about me? YOU are an idiot, because you're defending a thief. Marjolein can draw much and much better than this...thing.

:-) Alon Rand replies: "Ok, having just gone and dug up the picture you're referring to, I can honestly say that I have never seen anything by that artist before tonight. There is no earthly way I could have stolen, traced, copied, or even been inspired by the picture you're raving about. I'll admit the art is fairly good, but I've never seen it before. As I said, I used a photograph of a model for my reference material here. That pose is sufficiently generic that I'm really not sure how you arrived at your conclusion in the first place."

I just went and looked at this piece called Blue. Yes, there are some similarities. They are both female and looking over their shoulder. The hair and expressions are different though. Just because someone may be inspired by another picture they have seen does not make them a thief. If that was the way it were to be almost every artist would have to be considered one. I have seen many, many, many pictures of women looking over their shoulder at the viewer of the art piece. Are all of those a case of stealing also? I think not. Before you go around accusing others of being a thief you should think about it some what. Because, all you have done, is made yourself look like an idiot.

Now that I have that off of my chest! lol

I think this is quite a beautiful piece and can not wait to see it finished. She looks so real and her expression is wonderful! It has a sweet but also seducing look to it. I adore her hair too! And those wings are amazing! Good job!

I looked at Marjolien's work and even layered Blue and The Faerie Queen to see if the lines were similar or identical. I see how the pose could have been inspired, but there are too many differences to call it a copy.
I also agree that if inspired works were all credited as plagiarism, we'd have no art.

All that aside, I think the pose and the structure are beautiful. The feet, namely the back foot's heel and toes, strike me as... not quite right. I can't place what it is, but it doesn't detract from the rest. I love this picture, and rest assured that it looks enough like a faerie and not too angel-like.
