Helix the griffin is the first of five models I plan to build of the "big five" - griffin, phoenix, dragon, unicorn and pegasus. It is my first model of this kind and it took about 20 hours to complete. The inner structure is made of metal wire and pipe cleaners, covered with a layer of pair mache. It was great fun to attach the fur and feathers and I often felt more like a stylist than a modeler, cutting the feathers, grooming the fur and polishing claws. The eyes are wooden beads and the claws are made of fimo clay.
