Three steps

Three steps, that's all it took.
Only three steps 'till he was there.
It wasn't (really) the hardest steps he ever had to take.
Still, it wasn't easy.
First his left, just there.
Followed, naturally, by his right.
Another step gone.
Only two steps to go.
Was it a longing?
To just stop.
And turn around?
Go back?
To not get there.
After all this work.
Never!

Again his left
moves slowly forward.
A pause in motion.
Then his right.
Only One more!

One Step!

Could he really?
Would he really make it?
After all that,
just like that?
At last his left, just there.
Looking at the end.
Last,
his right
and he drops over the edge

off the world.

Not bad. Kinda haunting. I can never get my poems to go where I want. No matter the intent I start with, I end up with a tragic ballad. lol

Welcome to Elfwood. Come leave your footprints on my own dusty little shelf sometime.

:-) Rolf Akronos Keijzer replies: "Sadly I never got the chance to leave my footprints when you where alive... May you rest in peace in a heaven filled with stories as extraordinary as yours."
