Draco Umbra is my version of a different Earth Dragon.
I had this idea for ages in my head but never had the chance to work on a scribble or a drawing in general. Yesterday at night, the randomness of this idea to draw Draco umbra in this pose came over me. Since my sketchbook is very small, I chose an extreme displacement of perspective to get his full body plus a background in this small space. I started with the head of course, which came out very big. That was my problem.
But I managed to make it look tremendous in comparsison to the landscape below it. Even thought of scribbling a small house or village close to Draco Umbra but civilation is something this dragon doesn't really need, even though humans can't really fight against this one in my world of fantasy.

This should be more or less an ordinary scribble or concept sketch of a bigger project I want to start with this species. I didn't work out the detail so much. It looks all a little bit rough and sketchy, which also explains the time I spent on.
In a coloured version, the scales should look like stones and the colour of it is brown-green, just earth like. Not very visible for the human when this dragon lays on the ground. Some of them rest on the ground for thousand of years so that humans built their villages on it and forests grew in belief there is normal ground.
I even had the idea to draw an awakening of the Draco Umbra with breaking earth and forests around, having houses and trees on the body. More pictures of Draco Abavus, Draco Umbra and Astral dragon are yet to come.
I really ought to work on more of those ideas. *sighs*

The design of it isn't finished yet, I think it needs to look more rough and earthy.

Technical pencil on 20 x 20 sketch paper, more than a hour.

....no...definately not...I am frankly quite disappointed seeing what you have offered with your previous art...next time, attempt to scale the picture better-the dragon appears to have some sort of growth issue in it's neck...one final thing: in retrospect, you may want to emphasise an object's size by using more depth in the background....other than what was mentioned above, good drawing, keep it up

You are good but add colour. You, Max Maxbert Bertuzzi and Ken McCracken are my favourites throughout the whole of Elfwood
