The Boogeyman is in actual fact the living embodiment of all our childhood fears-the fear of the dark, abandonment, that evil clowns, the diabolical stranger prowling the dark, the escaped ax wielding mad-man or the shadowy stalker of naughty children.

The Boogeyman is a shapeshifter that is able to appear and manifest itself in any form that we are most feared of. It is said that this ancient purveyor of terror goes back much further to the dawn of man, I'm talking about the time when our forefathers were just cavemen, dawn of the humankind; way back to the lurking shadows that haunted the primitive man; this hoary archtype of evil probably predates even the devil.

I named this bizarre entity in my picture the Boogeyman-man because its based on a genuine encounter I had back in 2002. I remembered then my daughter who was about 2 yrs of age was warded in a children hospital for stomach infections. I and my wife accompanied her at the hospital and I would be the one doing the graveyard shift looking after her sitting by her bedside. I was so tired after the second night that I dozed off. And I saw in my dream a strangest of creature; it crawled backwards and its legs were sort of like fingers and its hand would support its upper body with its head looking forward, it would crawled somewhat like a spider.

After I awakened from my dream; I immediately doodled this nighmarish entity on a paper which I got from a nurse on night duty and later I re-design it. I still had that original piece of sketch that I did in the hospital...later I make afew different sketches of this Boogeyman and its one of those very rare instance that my art was being inspired by a dream-monster that I encountered. I named it the Boogeyman, with an extra man coz this is how my daughter would calls her Boogeyman!
