SciFi and Fantasy Art The Theban Sphinx by Aleister Lam

There are two versions of the famous Sphinx, one is the Egyptian Sphinx and the other is the Greek Sphinx. The Theban Sphinx is of Greek origin, and its got the head of a woman, in this case in the picture, a ugly and old woman; the body of a lion and the talons of a bird with two pendulous breasts hanging on the lion's chest. The reason I drew in the beard is because I want to represent this Sphinx as a sort of a hermaphroditic monster; which is of dubious sex. I expect afew comments on the breast here, cause I find that its rather misplaced!

18 Dec 2005	Inari	Loading... Lets get this under way: don't neglect a background. Done. It is a very good and well-thought image. I like the hermafrodite idea, also because the Greek would consider a hermafrodite (a being that is both Hermes and Afrodite) the most beautiful thing ever and that would give the beast even more authority.
