Outside the Gates of Minas Tirith, among the deafening screams of men and howls of orcs, amid the searing fires and choking clouds of dirt, two figures among thousands confront each other. Eowyn, the Shieldmaiden of Rohan prepares to fight to the last against the Lord of the Nazgul, the Witch-King, with the broken sword of Theoden in one hand and his unforgiving Black Mace in the other...

But he wields not Snaggle-tooth, as some have put it, as in the movie...but also...The spiky stuff is overly used....a mace need not be spiky, it has the weight that does the damage, the spikes would just get caught in stuff...and when grond hit the ground, it rent deep holes and pits...so one blow is about all it takes. But the witch-King from the movie rocks, I don't care what you think, P.J. did not ruin the story...some things sucked sure, but very few. give the guy some credit, he did what was called impossible
and have you seen the older version, the CARTOON VERSion? that one SUCKSS!

:-) Alexander J. Harron replies: "On the whole, I'd have to agree with you. Peter Jackson managed to bring Lord of the Rings, once a bastion of geeks and hippies, into the wide world and a new audience. I think I disagree with Jackson's work more in principal: he took a sombre, serious adventure and turned it into a big action-ppacked blockbuster. If he had made a literal translation of the book, it's unlikely the films would be nearly as popular as they are now.I do think that spikes are overused, but I feel that the way I've portrayed the Witch-King's mace is both aesthetically pleasing and functional: the spikes don't jeopardise the stability, and they decrease the weight, allowing swifter movement, and thus swifter blows. Besides, the Witch-King would probably not NEED to battle a lot, the mere sight of him would send men screaming, so he could afford to be extravagantly spiked.I appreciate your comments though, thanks!"

I will never read all other comments but I'm sure they are all very positive,so I agree with them.

:-) Alexander J. Harron replies: "Eowyn was far more interesting than Arwen. Silly Aragorn..."

Terribly frightening. In all my life I've never been afraid of Freddy Krueger, Chucky, or any other horror film...but I ever since I read Lord of the Rings, I have been afraid of Sauron and his Ringwraiths. (shivers)....makes me afraid of what you'd do with the Eye of Sauron....

Nice interpretation of the epic fight between two giants in the battle field. I Will say that tolkiens way to write leaves the reader to make her own mind picture. Great work
