When I watch The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, I was severly disappointed with the treamtment of the Ents. To me, they looked too comical, like those trees from The Wizard fo Oz.

Determined to put my personal visions of Ents to paper, I set aside some time to picture them as I believe they should be: the powerful, ethereal guardians of the forest. And thus, I give you the Al Harron treatment of the Ents...

I agree with anymonus. Tolkian tryed to show us that the ents are like whales " gental giants" not somthing evil or mutated.

I totally agree with your interpretation. They were gentle but strength lies in their design. i thought the movie made them a bit too "gentle and domicile" They were strong, and the Huorns feirce. When a 20 ft tree, walks, marches, speaks, moves and fights, it is not in my mind for them to be gentle or sapfilled! Even the Pines! haha I love this warrior like Study of the Ents! Every tree is different! Wonderful stuff!

This is just my opinion but the description of the ents in the book is fairly vague. So the movie's version, I think, is close but not quite how they are described. Your "version" of ents is pretty much inaccurate. In the book they describe them as slow long treeish old and very wise looking. Your "version" doesn't say old and wise to me. they say powerful and monstrous. But that's half the irony of the ents. You aren't suppose to think that they are powerful, Your are supposed to be surprised at the mighty strength of the solenm creatures. Also there is a repeated theme in the book that "states" that you do not have to be muscular and beast-like to be powerful, you can be more powerful with wisdom, and wisdom comes with age. So the Ents should look like old and timeless creatures. You see this theme in Gandolf and Sarumon. Besides your's don't look "treeish" and very much so remind me of swampthing. Though your drawing skill is pretty good I don't think that it is accurate to Lord of the Rings.

Oh and Huorns are pretty much supposed to be trees that can move, thats all.

I find your pictures very realistic. In fact, I wish Tolkien had come across your drawings before they had a chance to animate those ridiculous excuse for ents they have on ttt and rotk. Kudos to you and your kick-butt drawing skills.

i agree that they look too much human-like, except the middle one. That is extremely close to how I pictured the ents when I first read the books. Bravo on your skills. The other two look like they could be put in a game.

I personally think that you have excellant skill in art. Your Ents are extremely well drawn, but I am inclined to agree with what other people said. The Ent's were trees that became "Entish" They should look very much like a tree. They had a gentle look, that gives the soft look can be decieving. I like the center one the most though.

Ents are kind creatures not evil, the artist should try to make them look more kind.... But still its a nice pictures i want too see more

These drawings are done with great skill, that I allow to the artist. However, IMHO: they have too much of a human element - muscles, well-defined arms and legs - things which are not hinted at in the Tolkien books.

I was very pleased with the treatment they had on the Peter Jackson movies: they appealed to something in me, in a very deep recess of my memory. They are what a "live tree" would look like (in my mind).

But everyone is entitled to his or her interpretation: that's the beauty of imagination! 1
